Court granted bail to former NHIS boss Yusuf.

Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has been granted bail by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja. The EFCC has charged him with various counts of corruption.

On Thursday morning, Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu denied Yusuf’s bail plea following his arrest on five charges of corruption, including embezzlement, abuse of office, and illegal contract award.

The EFCC accused Yusuf of purchasing a car at an inflated cost of ₦49.1 million, above the stipulated amount of ₦30 million. He is accused of providing a ₦10.1 million training contract to a charity affiliated with him, despite just half of the targeted beneficiaries attending. Moreover, anti-graft agency claims he funneled a ₦17.5 million contract to his nephew’s company for media consultancy services without due process.
